Achievement

Internships have proved extremely valuable experiences for our students in OSEP-IGERT. Requiring internships of our students has been key to many of our students successfully landing jobs post-graduation. One student who did his industrial internship during this reporting period told us that it added immeasurably to his PhD program. He noted that it is unusual for a PhD program to offer assistance in helping students to identify avenues into possible careers. By making the industrial internship part of the training, OSEP-IGERT has provided students with industrial experience prior to finishing their PhD’s. Many times an internship can lead to a job in industry. In the case of this student, he was offered a high-paying, full-time position two weeks after he completed his internship.
